Age Concern Ayr SCIO is 100% funded by its charity shop and public donation and all money raised is used for the benefit of residents in South Ayrshire.
We have been operating in South Ayrshire since the opening of our Charity Shop in 1975.

Very quickly the charity shop proved to be a great success, but it soon became apparent there was a demand for something more than just pre loved items.
Customers to the shop were looking for advice on a number of topics ranging from benefits to details on local lunch clubs.  Although the shop volunteers at the time dealt with these enquiries as best they could, it was evident that there was a local need for something more substantial.
So with funds raised from the Charity Shop, it was decided that an Advice & Information Centre would be established and after 13 years of hard work by dedicated volunteers this was realised in late 1987.

The official launch of the Advice & Information Centre was held by Col. Bryce Knox (the Lord Lieutenant for Ayrshire & Arran at the time) on the 31st March 1988 and continues to this day at its Garden Street site, having celebrated its 30th year of operation in 2017.

The charity shop also continues to flourish at its Crown Street site and has become a firm favourite for shoppers of all ages with its vast array of goods at really inexpensive prices.

In September 2022, Age Concern Ayr (Charity number SC018878) was wound up and its constitution and all assets transferred to a new status with a new charity number: Age Concern Ayr SCIO, Scottish Charity No. SC051523). This was done to consolidate and affirm its assets and to protect its members, but its nucleus was not changed in any way. It remains a social enterprise and its aims remain consistent to its original purport.
